Is Rainbow Mulch safe for plants and animals?
Yes! The raw materials used to make Rainbow Mulch are made from naturally-occurring colours found on the earth’s surface. The colorants and additional ingredients of Rainbow Mulch are specially formulated to be non-toxic to plants and animals. It’s the safest, most effective way to add beauty to your landscape.

How long does Rainbow Mulch maintain color?
Colour-enhanced mulch will typically maintain its colour for more than one year, compared to other mulches, which turn grey or white after just a few weeks.

Do the colours ever wash off the Mulch?
No, Rainbow Mulch is specially engineered to create an incredible bond with wood fibre, once the colour dries it’s on the mulch permanently. You will not experience any wash-off or leaching.

Will white ants interact with Mulch?
| White ants tend to interact with
most forms of cellulose wood fibre regardless of
the source or type. However, mulch is an unattractive
source of food because of its small particle size
(white ants prefer large solid timber). If homeowners
have a problem with White ants in their area, the
best course of action is preventable care. When
placing mulch around a home, common recommendations
include keeping a 150mm gap between the top of the
mulch and any timber structure. |

Is Mulch detrimental to plant growth?
No. Using mulch will actually help plants grow better by inhibiting unwanted weed growth and preventing weeds from breaking through the soil. Mulch also keeps the soil surface cool and helps retail moisture and nutrients. Plus, Rainbow Mulch adds beauty and variety to the normal range of plants and foliage of any landscape.

Does Mulch deplete nitrogen levels in the soil?
|
As the mulched wood breaks down initially, it will use up some nitrogen in the soil. However after the fibre decomposes, it will restore the nitrogen back to the soil. The best way to maintain good plant growth is to implement and follow recommended fertilizer programs, a good horticulture practice regardless of whether or not mulch is used.

How much Rainbow Mulch should I apply?
As a general rule of thumb, you should apply mulch at a depth of 50-100mm (2-4 inches). Use less mulch for heavy, clay soils and more for lighter, sandy soils.

How often is remulching required?
Raking the mulch at 4-6 month intervals will rejuvenate the beds and allow aeration to plant roots, beneficial for plant growth. After 12-24 months or as the mulch breaks down you may need to top dress with 25-50mm of new mulch. Be careful not to over mulch.

Steps to proper mulching
Spring/Summer is the ideal season to apply your mulch (soil temperatures are warmer). Apply a 50-100mm layer of fine processed mulch around annuals and perennials. Avoid mulching directly around the stems of plants and trunks of trees. Spread mulch evenly and avoid compacting or matting down.
